37th Annual AJS Conference

This panel discussion, which was held at the Association for Jewish Studies Conference, models the discussions that occupy the pages of Sh’ma. Serving as a mediator between academia and the larger reading public interested in Jewish ideas, the forum honors Eugene Borowitz by exploring the pertinence of the concept central to the magazine he founded and nurtured for 23 years. The panel draws on a range of Jewish studies academics with quite different backgrounds and expertise – Shaul Maggid, Simone Schweber, and Abe Socher. After the panelists speak, Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi responds, and then Eugene Borowitz shares his reflections.
